Wood-fired ceramics hold their own unique traces of the firing process. Natural ash deposits from burning wood make each piece uniquely beautiful – a gift of Nature.
Through years of wood-firing my ceramics, I found the process to be deeply related to the elements of Nature and of the Universe. The sky at sun rise and sun set, the flow of water in a river, bay, and ocean... high tide, low tide, mountains covered with snow, trees and flowers, even moss on rocks. We see beauty in Nature and are inspired. When I see wood-fired ceramics I sometimes feel that I experience the beauty of Nature – harmonious beings and voices from ancient times. My clay works are gifts of Nature.
